Cultural Pattern Rank Order (CPRO)

Overview — Comparing Rank Orders Across Assessments

The Cultural Pattern Rank Order report — CPRO — lines up several assessments side by side and shows how each one ranked its cultural patterns. Where a single activity's report tells you what one assessment found, CPRO shows you whether the same patterns keep surfacing at the top across sites and over time.

Open Cultural Pattern Rank Order Report from the sidebar. It is Utility Admin only — a COG Admin without the Utility Admin role cannot see the entry.

GOOD TO KNOW  CPRO reads from Cultural Pattern questions. An assessment whose survey drew on Safety Culture or Other questions instead will not contribute a meaningful column — see Question Composer.

Running the Report

Three inputs, all required.

The CPRO report criteria.

Field

What it does

Start Date

The beginning of the window. Assessments dated before this are excluded.

End Date

The end of the window.

Utilities for Report

One or more utilities to include, selected as chips. At least one is required.

Click Get Report to run it.

GOOD TO KNOW  The date window filters on the activity's date, not on when responses were collected or when you run the report. An assessment that ran over a period is included or excluded by its activity date alone.

PRO TIP  Start wide and narrow down. Set a generous date range first to see which assessments exist in the window, then tighten it once you know what you are comparing. A too-narrow range is the usual reason a report comes back empty.

HEADS UP  Selecting many utilities across a long window produces a very wide table — one column per matching assessment. The table scrolls horizontally, but for anything beyond a handful of columns the Excel export is far easier to work with.

Reading the Report

The result is a table with:

·        A Rank order column down the left — 1, 2, 3, and so on.

·        One column per matching assessment, headed with the utility's short name, the activity date, and the activity title:

CNL (2026-03-14) - Spring Culture Assessment

Read across a row to compare what each assessment placed at that rank; read down a column to see one assessment's full rank order.

PRO TIP  The insight is usually in the top three or four rows. A pattern appearing in the top three of every column is a fleet-wide theme; one appearing high in a single column is a site-specific finding. That distinction is what the report exists to make visible.

GOOD TO KNOW  Column headers use the utility's Short Name. If a header is cryptic, that short name is set in Manage Utility — see Utilities. Renaming it there changes these headers, including on reports of past assessments.

HEADS UP  Because each column comes from a different assessment, columns are only comparable where the assessments asked comparable questions. Two activities built from different question sets will produce two valid rank orders that do not mean the same thing side by side. Check what each survey actually contained before drawing conclusions across columns.

When there are no results

If nothing matches, the report shows No Results available !

GOOD TO KNOW  An empty result means no assessment matched all the criteria — the date window, the chosen utilities, and having cultural pattern data to rank. Widen the dates first; that is the most common cause.

Exporting

The Download Excel button in the report's toolbar exports the table as an Excel workbook.

PRO TIP  Export to Excel for anything you intend to circulate or annotate. Wide CPRO tables are hard to read in the browser, and the export preserves the column headers so the workbook stands on its own.

HEADS UP  Export Excel — it is the only export on this report. A CSV option is not available here.

GOOD TO KNOW  The export is a snapshot of the criteria you ran. It carries no record of the date range or utilities you selected, so note those in the filename or a header row if the workbook is going to someone else.

Common Problems

What you see

What it means

Cultural Pattern Rank Order Report missing from the sidebar

It is Utility Admin only. A COG Admin without that role cannot reach it.

Get Report disabled

A required field is empty — Start Date, End Date, or at least one utility.

No Results available !

Nothing matched the criteria. Widen the date range first, then check the utility selection.

An assessment you expected is missing a column

Its activity date falls outside the window, its utility was not selected, or it has no cultural pattern data.

Table too wide to read

Use Download Excel, or narrow the date range or utility list.

Cryptic column headers

They use the utility Short Name. Check it in Manage Utility.

Columns do not seem comparable

The assessments likely used different question sets. Verify what each survey contained.
